A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

While perhaps not at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
