Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' operational training department.
The committee indicated that one line of inquiry points to the possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has not issued a comment.
Location of the Blast
Personnel have been sent to the site, which is reportedly in a southerly district of the capital.
Accounts state the blast took place in a vehicle lot near a residential building.
Series of Incidents
Since the start of the full-scale conflict in Ukraine, a number of Russian military personnel have been attacked within Moscow.
This most recent event comes after other high-profile incidents, including:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a vehicle explosion in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a device hidden on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a informant earlier attributed Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are not officially confirmed as a matter of official stance.
The conflict has increasingly seen clandestine operations reaching into the heart of the Russian capital.
The probe into General Sarvarov's death continues to be underway.
