Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this endearing family go about their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
