American Social Media Personality Penalized Following Large-Scale E-Bike Ride on Sydney Harbour Bridge

NSW authorities have issued a fine against an American social media personality and handed out two driving violation citations for reported reckless operation after a swarm of electric bicycle users converged on the Sydney Harbour Bridge during peak-hour traffic on a weekday.

The Event: An Illegal Gathering

A gathering of approximately 40 people riding e-bikes and motorcycles travelled along the bridge’s main deck, where cycling is prohibited. The assembly then turned around and rode through the downtown area and Haymarket.

"There was potential for people to be injured and killed," stated NSW police assistant commissioner the officer on the following day.

Police indicated they did not immediately pursue the riders due to safety concerns but instead located the group at a scenic Sydney lookout near the Botanic Gardens, where they dispersed.

Fines Imposed for Influencer

On Saturday, police announced they had served the US social media influencer known as the influencer, twenty-six, with two traffic infringement notices for careless operation (with no death or previous bodily harm), with a fine of $562 and three demerit points per notice, in relation to the bridge ride-out. Officials noted that inquiries were continuing.

The personality reportedly has more than 3.4 million followers on one platform and over 1.2m on the social media app.

Creator's Response

The online figure spoke with a local publication recently after the incident spread rapidly on news sites and social media, stating he regretted giving "bike life" a bad reputation.

"I accept the blame. It was among the safest gatherings I have witnessed," he said. "I’m coming here as a guest, and I intend to abide by the rules and standards of the city. So when I decided to do a meet and greet it did not involve a ride-out, it was just to say hi under the bridge."

"I’m unfamiliar with the city, it was my fault we ended up on the bridge and I had two choices: either the group completes the entirety of the bridge and turns around, which is a crime. Or we reverse, essentially, before we’re on the bridge. I chose at the time to turn around."

National Debate on Electric Bike Rules

The spate of electric bicycles on streets across the country has sparked growing calls for stricter rules. The federal health minister, the minister, recently said that non-compliant electric bikes were a "complete hazard on the road."

"Kids have done stupid things on bikes ever since the penny-farthing [but] the injuries that are coming into our hospital emergency departments are absolutely devastating," the minister stated. "We must make sure we prevent these things entering the country [and] officers are given the authority to crack down, to confiscate them, to crush them, to destroy them."

The state reported over two hundred injuries associated with ebikes in 2024. However, in the initial half of the following year, that number jumped to two hundred thirty-three injuries plus four fatalities.
