Arne Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position after another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but if you are working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his conversations with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell such as this with results this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
