Toronto Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup Versus the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their initial championship series after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Dodgers, the team that is the reigning title, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for everyone here, the city, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an unbelievable moment."

George Springer has now hit twenty-three October home runs, making him third in history behind Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"I can't think of anyone else on planet Earth that I'd choose in that situation other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, are still the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.

Manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it hurts" in the wake of his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but applauded their performance in the campaign.

"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the unsuccessful side of this game," he continued.

The Blue Jays secured the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on this Friday.
